Software Developer / Researcher

Software developer and applied AI researcher based at HOWEST University of Applied Sciences. I bring products to life from concept to production — and I genuinely love the process of diving deep into a subject before building the solution.

About me

I'm a software developer based in West-Vlaanderen with around 3 years of experience building applications end-to-end. My happy place is the challenge that I need to solve with a digital product. I currently work as a researcher and software developer at HOWEST University of Applied Sciences, where I develop the software for our research projects. I also contribute to the research itself, with a focus on applied AI.

I started my career in the industry as field engineer, and later R&D engineer in the automotive industry. During that time, I started tinkering with Native mobile development for Android. That was the moment I knew I wanted to be a software developer, and I made the leap to a full-time software engineering role in 2023.

Outside of work, I am a father of three wonderful children (my main project), but I also tinker with side projects, and work as a volunteer in a non-profit where I maintain a web-application (Flutter + Firebase). I also have a passion for space (exploration) and astronomy, and rock climbing.

howest

Silo Connect is a Flutter mobile app developed at Howest for Lambrecht Constructie nv, a family-owned bulk transport company. The app uses AI/ML — specifically YOLOv8 object detection and Google ML Kit — to automatically identify silo numbers via the smartphone camera and verify that a trailer is connected to the correct silo before unloading. Communication between the app and trailer cabinet happens over TCP/IP, making the entire process hardware-cost-free for the customer. A robust, driver-friendly solution built to eliminate incorrect unloadings without any modifications to existing silo installations.

YET is a Flutter & Firebase mobile app developed at Howest University that empowers children and young people to actively shape their living environment — sharing ideas, flagging spatial issues, and participating in local co-creation projects. Paired with a custom web-based admin dashboard, YET was my first end-to-end project built from scratch, and the one that truly marked my growth as a developer.

personal

My Energy Desk is a personal Flutter app — originally built as a native Android/Java project for Harvard's CS50 final — that lets users log and monitor home energy consumption across electricity, gas, water, etc. By periodically entering meter readings, the app builds a personal database and visualizes usage trends through graphs over time. 100% free, ad-free, and with Excel import/export built in. I'm still actively developing the app, and has since been converted to Flutter.
